This morning we had a choice- leave peacefully or get thrown out on our ear, I’m not sure the latter would have happened but we did know that the site we occupied was reserved by someone coming into the park so we decided to leave peacefully. The nasty weather that was supposed to come through last night didn’t but some pretty strong wind showed up this morning.
We find our way to the road and I notice that the diesel exhaust fluid gauge is showing fumes……. Jil also noticed it saying we need DEF. Being the smart feller that I am I remember seeing a low but adequate supply of DEF in the tank but the level is one notch lower than that I tell her we have to find a fueling station or an auto parts store pronto. If the system runs out of DEF the engine will derate- meaning it will provide only enough power to propel the RV to 5 miles per hour. Derate is not good. DEF can be purchased at a gas staton or an auto parts store or.Walmart. When we pull into a little farm town that has “a” gas station it also has “a” Walmart. Who would a thunk it? The DEF tank now has 2.5 gallons of DEF in it and we are on our way.
I don’t like to travel in strong winds. It’s like trying to keep a 35 foot long by 13 foot high billboard in a lane that’s only 18″ wider. There’s a lot of steer but more counter steer in cross winds. I start driving just under the speed limit and find that it’s too difficult to control the rig so I drop down to 10 mph under the speed limit. Trucks go by but they aren’t going the speed limit either. Counter steering makes me change to a stronger grip on the wheel but my hands are getting tired so I change my grip once in a while. Meanwhile the rig is staying in its lane but wandering from center to fog line and back again.
We are not heading for Tennessee today but to Paducah KY. Pacucah’s about 1/2 way to the barn and with the wind quartering on our chosen route there’s no way that I can point this big barge down the road for more than 3 or so hours. The route to Paducah is pretty cool

Cairo Mississippi Bridge

Cairo Ohio River Bridge
The first 35 miles is farmland, then we zing east and go over two very narrow bridges, the Cairo over the Mississippi River and the other not more than a mile from the first bridge, the Cairo over the Ohio River, both just upstream from the confluence of these mighty rivers. Meanwhile we leave Missouri, dive into Illinois and enter Kentucky all between those bridges. Two bridges, three states and two major rivers within a mile of one another.

Confluence of Mississippi (left) and Ohio Rivers
We continue on and turn north on Highway 60 after reaching Wickiffe KY. We have about 40 miles to go before reaching Fern Pond RV Park in Paducah. We’ll spend the night here before heading to Goodlettsville, TN where we will stay in the Grand Ole RV Park and Market while we wait for our furniture to catch up to us.
We’ll keep you posted as to our adventures when we get to Tennessee

Hi Catherine,
We made it to Goodletsville, the town next to ours, to hang in the RV for a week while work was being done on the house. We’ve moved into the house 3 days ago sitting on camping chairs, eating with 2 forks 2 spoons and 1 butter knife in the drawer. We’ve eaten out a couple of times and have stocked TV dinners in the freezer. Mover said they wanted to be paid 2 days in advance. Two days was today. Jil inquired about the truck and it was said the truck was broken down in RENO! I called and talked to the guy that we had dealt with in the past and he said that they aren’t in control of technical issues nor the weather. The breakdown occurred on Friday. I asked the status of our shipment/ or the truck and couldn’t get an answer even though the breakdown occurred Friday.
So we have some chairs and a TV coming tomorrow from local stores. that will make things better.
