Moving into our new to us house has been really fun. Unpacking boxes of our belongings and trying to determine the best place for their contents. Some are self explanatory such as kitchen alliances or electric saws and drills that go in the garage. Others require a little more thought Here we are 4 months after the moving van showed up and we are still juggling items from here to there.
The house was in decent shape when we bought it. Normal folks would have just moved in an done norhirng at all to the house as there was really nothing wrong with it except it was a little over 20 years old and never updated except for the new luxury vinyl tile that’s on the floor. So that’s where my designer wifey comes in.
The texture on the ceiling was not appealing so it all came off. The brand new paint job courtesy of the previous owner was the wrong color so the interior of the house was repainted in a more appealing color. The kitchen got undercounted lighting which greatly improved lighting, new flush mounted lighting in the ceiling, quartz countertops, new sink and faucet and all new appliances.
The guest bathroom got a minor makeover with a quarter countertop, new china sink and faucet. The major transformation was in the master bath. The original vanity was actually two single vanities placed side by side to form one larger one. It looked good on paper but this configuration didn’t offer centrally located drawers. They came out and a very nice double sink unit from a big box store was set into place. The new venire came with a quartz top and china sinks- we supplied the faucets and drain line. The new vanity impresses every time I walk into that room-its very nice.
To complete the renovation the tub and surround were removed and replaced with a beautiful green tiled shower surround complete with hand held adjustable shower head and a big ole rain shower head to stand under. The shower floor is tile that looks like basket weave and because of the texture is not slippery. Wowzer! The shower is very large and pretty. We also bought new furniture to compliment that which we brought rather than pay the steep fee to transport 10 year old furniture.
So the house renovation is pretty much done- now for my back. I’ve been nursing a bad back for well over a year, knew we were moving to Tennessee so I held off on anything more radical than pain pills to treat my back. So in early June I visit4ed dr. Jason Smith, spine surgeon. MRI confirmed my spinal cord was being pinched by L4 and L5 vertabrae- a two tier spinal nerve pinch as it were. On June 9th I went under the knife so to speak, Dr. Smith retired my spine so that it no longer pinched my spinal cord. New in early August I am participating in PT. I still can’t walk very far without taking a break, I can drive because I no longer ingest mind altering pain pills. Pain has subsided considerably and I normally get a good night’s sleep. PT is helping me regain my loss of strength. I’m very thankful to my surgeon, my wife and to my God for my continued recovery.
